Misunderstanding Acne

Misunderstanding Acne
by Lisa Monroe.

There is a lot of misinformation about acne. For years we have been taught that acne was due to several different reasons. Now scientists are beginning to tell us something totally different. These misunderstandings about acne continue to be the norm. Listed below are some of the misunderstandings that people have about acne.

#1. Acne is caused by specific foods

As far back as I can remember, 50 years at least, I have heard that chocolate would cause the face to break out with pimples. Studies have shown that there is no scientific evidence that this is true. There is no evidence that greasy foods will cause acne or that foods high in sugar will cause acne. There does seem to be some foods that aggrevate the condition. Foods that are high in iodine appear to exascerbate the problem. There also appears to be a problem with milk.

#2. Acne has to run its course

There are many treatments available for people who suffer from acne. There are many over the counter products available, such as the one at http://edmiii.acnefree.hop.clickbank.net If over the counter products do not work, you should definitely see a dermatologist.

#3: Acne is caused by poor hygiene

Sometimes acne leads to skin infections and this has led to the idea that poor hygiene is the source of the problem. The bacteria that causes acne is below the skin and it is impossible to wash it away. However, it does help your acne if you cleanse your skin
with a gentle soap once or twice a day. Do not scrub too hard, as this may inflame the situation and cause more problems.

#4. Sunbathing is good for acne

Sun exposure of 15 to 20 minutes a day is good for almost everyone, but too much sun exposure can lead to other problems, such as skin cancer. There are some short-term advantages of exposure your acne to the sun, but there is no long term advantage.

#5. Acne is only a teenage condition

Teenagers experience acne more than any other age group, but by no means does this mean that no other age group suffers from acne. Some people do no experience acne until they have passed the teenage years, and some people do not suffer from acne until their 40s.

#6. Acne only affects appearance

Acne can cause psychological problems, such as low self-esteem. Severe acne can cause teenagers to withdraw from social situations and cand lead to depression.

#7. Makeup causes acne

Make-up can cause clogged pores, so it is probably best that someone who suffers from acne use a noncomedogenic or nonacnegenic make-up.

#8. Popping pimples is the best way to get rid of them

Any time you pop a pimple or mess with your acne you are spreading the bacteria that is causing the acne. So popping the pimple can lead to scarring, which becomes an even greater problem.

#9: The more acne medicine the better

This not necessarily the case. It is a good idea to start treating acne at its first appearnce, but more medicine does not always mean that the problem will go away. You should follow the directions on the acne medication that you decide to use. A good choice for over the counter medicaton can be found at http://edmiii.acnefree.hop.clickbank.net

#10. If your acne does not get better with over the counter products, then you should be a dermatologist.
